had a finals shoot at school. It was super stressful but super fun!

For this shoot I made most of the accessories (thank you SM and Quiapo!) and grabbed clothes from my closet. I didn't bring shoes anymore because we all had half body shots.

The photog will give us copies of the shots soon, but in the meantime,

here are some pictures from M's camera.

M is wearing a thrifted flowery dress (I like old lady-ish floral patterns at the moment), a feathered headband that i made, black leggings and two-tone dancing shoes. plus a thrifted snakeskin bag. (no, no makeup yet!)

:) i practically ordered Murphy to be my model for my make up class. I did a 40's look -- I thought she'd be perfect for it, what with her curly hair and big eyes.. and nice lips. And I was right.

PS. She rocked the cherry print dress. Yey.

I didn't put eyeshadow on her. I was short on time, so to add depth, I just used the darkest shade on my kryolan palette (which, by the way, was really worth the moolah i forked out . five shades of foundation with buildable coverage. you get shades for contouring, highlighting and mixing the exact skin tone.and it. stays. put.)

Hihi. Very amateurish pa, but I enjoyed dolling her up.

We went on a nice little tramp 'round malate.
looked at beautiful old buildings (pretty in spite of soot and age). had chocolate eh and fresh fresh pan de sal with butter and soft white cheese and cups and cups of coffee at Cafe Adriatico.

i like how conversation is never stilted with you.

Ended up at Robinson's Ermita. Had a great time rifling through secondhand books.

a trip to Japan Home/88php/Daiso yielded one essential find: those little straps that clip bedsheets down so they don't move around and get wrinkly.

i just put them in. you can bounce a peso in the sheets. yey.

Years ago, I stumbled upon this uninteresting looking book in our library. It was about food, mostly, but written with such gentle humor, wit and fire. I half fell in love with the author at Chapter One.
I knew the writer was a 'she', but I only had the chance to see her face now.

Mary Frances Fisher, (July 3, 1908 – June 22, 1992).

What a beauty.
Now there's a woman with the right kind of hunger.

Christmas is 'round the corner. As usual I don't really feel caught up in the whole feel of the season.

Buuut today I'm wearing something that reminds me of those holiday sweaters i had to be wrestled into when I was younger. Minus the thick scratchy wool and puffed sleeves, thank heavens.

It's like someone plastered a lace collar and sewed on fake pearls and a sweet little rhinestone in the middle. I'm wearing it with jeans tucked into a pair of black, soft cloth boots (it's got little doll's heads silkscreened print going on. it's too young for me ata but i likeyyy. kebs)

I don't really know the direction of my wardrobe lately, but that's ok.

It was Murphy's birthday last Saturday (Yay 18 na si Bunsoyy!). I wore this grey sweater over a black fringed miniskirt (the material is faux leather. it's 3 sizes too big but thanks to a safety pin...dotdotdot) and paired it with my little flowered purse (more on that later) and silver ballet flats.

I like the sweater because it hides the tummy area. I've been a bad girl. Kain ng kain. hihi.

this skirt is my current favorite ukay find. i never thought of myself as the fringe wearing type. I took a shot of it while riding a cab. ma-action yung fringe! hahahaha

I added a flowery scarf to cheer up the grey.
I went to Pride after, here I am with my mask ...and no, that's not my yosi!!

as for bags, here are two that i've been using a lot.

First up is this flowery little purse. It reminds me of those cute doc martens I've been seeing a lot in the fashion blogosphere lately. I stuck a little red rhinestone on the flap (not pictured).

Second is this brown purse. It opens and closes like an old lady's purse. I love it to bits. Andrea found this little blue flower patch to go with it. I'll sew it on when I've time.

On the hair front, Tar cut my hair again. Last year, she cut it short. Now I'm just sporting a fringe.

I think it looks better than my sorry attempt circa 200..6? or 2007 ata.

This is something I wouldn't buy for myself. I have a paper fetish but I get shy around pretty journals. I usually end up just pawing through the racks at the bookstore and leaving empty-handed.

So this is yesterday's best surprise! :D

I attended a makeup workshop last saturday. It was fun. Naisip ko I'd love to do that someday. Pero target ko yung mga geeky little girls na takot mag try ng make up. Masaya yata mag experiment at magturo at matuto togetherr.
I have a soft spot for shy bookworm-y geeky girls. Kasi i think i never outgrew that part of me din.

this is a first, be kind.

I've been starting to build my own make up stash -- it's easy enough to decide on what I want to have but since we all know want is inversely proportional to contents of wallet , i've been doing the rounds on local make up blogs. And they seem to have a number of things in common-- among them MAC and Suesh brushes.

MAC - damn expensive (but v. v. v. v. v. v. nice)

Suesh- affordable

How affordable? Let's just say my recent purchase got me a set of 5 brushes for 900php --- 300php less than what my big brush from The Body Shop cost. It also costs less than the mini brush set from The Face Shop (at 1200php/set, I have yet to try that one out).

Look:

They come in a soft faux leather case, with individual holders and plastic shields on the lippy and blush/powder brush. The case is rolled and held closed by a metal clasp. I didn't care much for the clasp, it felt a bit flimsy. But I have to say, having 'em in a case is a lot better than banana finger-ing your way through the make up jungle that is your zippered case (ahem), looking for a rogue brush.

The brush handles are a nice, glossy red. The length is just right, you don't feel like a fat fingered gorilla smearing things at all -- as of this writing, the sad little applicators from my eye shadows have ceased to exist ;)

I washed the brushes before using them, just to see how well they would hold up after a sudsy encounter. The blush/powder brush had some hairs that stubbornly stuck out , but other than that, they looked just about the same.

Check out the difference between The Body Shop's biggish all around brush (after 10++ washes) bristles and Suesh's (after 1x)

look at the man's slit throat in the background. special fx make up is so wonderful!

Anyway, on to the individual reviews..

1. The Blush/Powder Brush - this i like. It's full, quite soft on the face...imagine a cute little fox wagging it's fluffy tail on your rapidly getting sleepy f... anyway, you get my drift. This compact brush picks up and distributes your setting/blusher/bronzer powder nicely.

For everyday use, I'd choose it over the bulkier Body Shop Brush.

See? The corpulent bloke fancies it too!

2. The Eyeshadow Brush & Smudge Brush -- I placed them under one item because I'm on a no makeup -makeup kick. The rare times I use eye shadow, I just use the light shimmery shade from the Face Shop's Baked Trio (brown, if you were wondering). Let me just say the bristles are firm, and not scratchy at all. They pick up the powder/pigment well. And their different sizes guarantee a shot at experimenting with shading for the beginner.

They smooth on the color nicely. The length of the handles make you feel in control. I'm repeating myself because I've been at the mercy of those little iffy paddles forever.

Chewbacca is jealous of A Man Called Horse's gorgeous eye socket shadowing...

The secret, they say, is to blend blend blend...

3. The Eyebrow Brush- If you're a survivor of a) The Unibrow Years *cough b) The Wait Is That Baby Hair or... Eye..brows... Phase, you'd have a rather unhealthy fixation over the status of your brows. I know do. It's a struggle to keep them in shape, and since I've recently converted to eyebrow powder instead of the usual crayon (because short strokes still look unnatural on me) , this brush Very Welcome.

If you're using that... twig stick that comes free with your powder, please let go.

Good brows open up your featureslikewhoa. iz like a magic!

3. The Concealer/Lip Brush - I wouldn't use this as a concealer brush; it's too narrow for eyebags- coverage. It'll probably do for dark zit scars in a pinch, I guess. I tried this as a lippy brush, and it works fine.

Using a brush for your lipstick is great -- controlled application, and you get to use up everything (and not have to try to dig your lip into the bottom of the tube as I've seen some ladies do..not pretty). And if you wash your brush often, it's also the more sanitary way of rouging up.

Arsenic-ingesting ladies benefit as well!

All in all, I think it's a great buy, if you're looking for something basic that works well and won't kill your beauty budget in one blow. It's small enough to schlep around, spiffy looking enough to whip out at the powder room.

The Suesh 5- Piece Set is your man, rookies. Take it out for a little spin, see if you don't find yourself loving it!

my everyday war paint takes 5 minutes or so:

concealer on dark spots --eyebags (!), chin, sides of the nose...

dk brown brow powder, a little highlighter underneath the brow, wash of light brown on eyelid, teensy bit of blush. I'm trying out the mineral powder foundation from Revlon. The brush that comes with it sucks, if I may add.

I'd like to thank my Book Sale find,

for the backgrounds. It's an informative and inspiring read! The chapters on shading techniques and special effects are great. And this is where I first read about Kryolan make up.

my favorite heterosexual couple broke up after seven years together. seven years! i haven't even liked anyone that long.. let alone loved.

they were a couple already back in high school, for chrissakes.

i took her out today, we went far away from her, their comfort zone. i didn't want to spend the day babysitting a crying girl... i didn't want to hear all those cliches ( now loaded with familiarity), again.
i wanted us to take a bloody bus ride away from her heartbreak. but i guess that's impossible. half the things we did, the places we went to somehow rang a chord, still struck sadness.

and i couldn't get angry, for the life of me. because i know only too well how stagnancy deals it's blows. no matter what, someone will always outgrow the other. and she built her life on him, knowing it wasn't the right thing to do.

hay.
a boy's never made me feel like that. i wonder if it's a different kind of pain. haha.
the first and only time i came even near to experiencing heartbreak dealt by a male is now a faint, embarassing memory :)

24 years ago , i was born in a speeding 16 ts renault on the south superhighway. i came out one month too early.

it's one of my favorite stories to tell -- how it was raining, how the toll wasn't paid. how my dad caught me the second i came out and i had to stay connected to my mom all the way to the emergency room. i believe the driver almost fainted.

i'm 24! crikey! parang kahapon lang high school pa ako. hahahaha. joke lang.

a lot of things seem so far away now. halika konting trip tayo down my memory lane.

i woke up with a migraine today. it probably would've set a cranky mood for the morning, but with a pillow harem and cuddly things nearby, i was safe. the world was safe.

it's saturday.
i was planning to do a little book-hunting and ukay. I miss finding nice thing and rummaging. And chai after.
But it is 6:51 and my butt's still firmly planted. Today's rather lazy. it feels like sunday.

- my boxing shoes are getting worn out. it's time to find a new pair of pangharabas shoes.

- i was going through my closet, weeding out the corporate wear (bye bye to you!), the woolens. trying to find summer-y things. i found some flimsy little dresses and cotton tops and i realized that waist down... i'm not prepared for summer. I wonder if I can handle going about in shorts and slippers. Constantly bumping into and tripping over things find my knees bruised and scratched most times. humm.

-it's summer and i want to do things. i was thinking of taking a basic sewing course. i want to learn how to operate a sewing machine... been itching to cut and modify a lot of my clothes. and silkscreen. i'm working on some doodles that might find their way to a shirt and look halfway cute. and bookbind. i want to figure out how to do the coptic stitch. grah. andami kong gusto gawin.

i gave myself time to wander and have fun but that will end soon. kaya i better geroff my ass.

ran into yam last night. we played with moomin's photobooth. hehe.
i look fat. it's all the gelato and crepes in my system.
the dark chocolate gelato at belissimo morato is fantastic. yuyuyum.

i wonder how a drunken post would sound coming from me. see i don't have an affinity with alchohol.( i drink, but i'm a lousy drunk. lousy)

there's beer in the fridge. and a cup of tea in front of me. and i'm thinking that's rather lame.but then again i'm alone, holed up on a tuesday night with nowhere to go. i could drive around but my favorite passenger is away, at work..
also my car is a stranger to me..

there's not much point in this post, except i was just thinking back on the recent years and my life so far

and i realized i'm happy. with what i've gone through. and i'm lucky i have what i have, considering...

and also i just want to say in the short time i've been alive i have had, like, twenty favorite shirts
and most of them are gone or currently being replaced

and whoever got stuck with what i lost or left behind:
i hope you love them as well. maybe more.
shirts are shirts.
